CLASS Descriptions
MINI HIP HOP
An introductory class recommended for 5 to 8 year olds to learn the fundamentals of hip hop dance including basic rhythm and timing structures, isolations, grooves, and the value of teamwork as it relates to performing simple hip hop combinations.
HIP HOP A
A beginning level class recommended for dancers age 9 through 18. Class will focus on the fundamentals of hip hop dance including beginning rhythm and timing structures, isolations, grooves, and the value of teamwork as it relates to performing simple hip hop combinations.
HIP HOP B/C
An intermediate/advanced level class recommended for dancers age 11 through 18. Class will focus on teaching dancers how to execute complex hip hop combinations with greater accuracy and ease. Combinations will vary in timing structures, incorporate polyrhythmic movement, and encourage dancers to be self-confident.

About HIP HOP Dance
The term ‘Hip Hop’ was coined in the Bronx in the 70’s, and it is inclusive of four elements: B-Boying, DJ-ing, MC-ing, and Graffiti Art. The most popular DJ, DJ Kool Herc, created breaks in the beats he was spinning, and during these breaks, b-boys explored movements such as breaking, locking, and popping. Television and music videos brought Hip Hop to the mainstream, and today, we associate Hip Hop dance with a variety of fresh and upbeat music. Skills that are practiced in a Hip Hop dance class include grooves, musicality, spatial awareness, endurance, and performance/expression.
